How much is too much? How much is not enough?

In today’s world, there are so many social media channels and ways to reach out to people that sometimes we can feel a little overwhelmed with all of the messages we are receiving – and do we really hear them?  This leads us to ask ‘So how do you work out what to say and how often to say it?’

Do you want to shower your ‘followers’ with information in the hope they will remember your name or do you want to be more focused and send messages that mean something to them?

Ask yourself this – What am I using social media for?  Is it to raise brand awareness?  Are you selling directly to your audience?  Are you simply want to inform them?  So many questions – and to make matters worse, there are also so many answers…….

Whatever your motivation for engaging in social media, I think the key is to keep it simple and don’t make promises you can’t keep.  Keep it REAL.

RECIPROCATE – Share what others put out there in the hope they will share back, more shares means more views and more views means more opportunities and a wider audience to share your message with.

ENGAGE – every time!  The old adage quality not quantity applies here.  If you are flooding your social media channels then you become that annoying fly, buzzing around that won’t go away.  Don’t be that fly!  You want people to connect with what you are saying so make it interesting, engaging and relevant.

ACKNOWLEDGE – If people are taking the time to respond to what you are putting out there, don’t ignore them!  Tweet back, mention them, follow them and build a ‘social’ relationship and finally……..

LISTEN – If you ask your audience what they want to hear, then you had better make sure you deliver it.  There is nothing worse than asking the question and then ignoring the answer.
